Wider! I was getting a little cramped with that narrow-format page. It's now a full 1000 pixels wide. |

Made several cosmetic changes to the 3td blog today. I was really starting to have a problem with the crazy color scheme. First to go was the yellow gradient background on all of the post titles, and the orange background on the date/time stamp for each entry. Instead of these background colors, I added a thin bottom border to the titles. Another thing that bugged me was how on any page except for the main page the sidebar disappeared. This is unnecessary and stupid, so I fixed it. While I was at it, I added borders to the sidebar and brightened the background slightly to set it apart more from the rest of the page. The result, I think, is a color scheme that works much better and lends a slightly more classy appearance.

This is not a blog. I've decided that blog-type posts (which my last two posts have been) do not belong here. So I've resurrected the old Three Times Daily blog. You can read future blog-type posts there. This page will be strictly for site/family news. |

Got hit with the facebook bomb today. Well, probably the first wave. I know how it happened, I knew it would happen, just didn't realize how SOON it would happen. I added my wife as a friend yesterday when I signed up. I also found a friend from high school that I hadn't spoken to for some time and added him. I resisted adding every fricking person I have ever met in my life as a friend, because I knew this would happen sooner or later anyway. Okay, I'm exaggerating. I got 6 friend requests today. I responded and accepted 4 of them -- two siblings and 2 cousins. Now to sit back and wait for the second wave. By the way...
What's the etiquette on facebook? Are you socially obligated to accept every friend request you get? What are the repercussions if you don't? Here's the thing. Only one of the friend requests I got today actually sent a message along with the request. Two of the requests were from people I hardly know, or haven't spoken to in over 15 years. I did not immediately respond to those requests. Come on, just because I shared a few years of high school with someone in another life, doesn't automatically mean I'm their friend, or that they're mine. I suppose that makes me a prick or a snob or something. But here's my point. I think. In this brave new world of online socializing, we are losing our sense of normal social behavior. We suddenly feel obligated to be someone's friend "just because they asked," and we feel guilty if we don't. That's not normal. In real life, the "friend" bit would come after several conversations when both people just feel comfortable with each other. Rather than, "Hey, dude, you're the cousin of my sister's friend's roommate's boyfriend. We should be friends!" So I'm resisting this abnormality and I'm going to continue this social experiment by proceeding in the most normal-feeling manner I can think of. I'm going to respond to those requests by messaging them and take it from there. I hope they will not be offended that I did not immediately accept them as friends. We will see. |

Yeah, so now I have an account. Now what? I added my wife as a friend, of course. I've restrained myself from signing up for anything and everything, importing my list of 230 gmail contacts to add as friends (good grief!), and adding a bunch of sappy crap to my profile page. One cool thing I figured out how to do was make the RSS feed for this website show up on my facebook page. I'm tring to figure out how to link my Diigo account and my Facebook account to syncronize bookmarks. If I can figure that out, I'll be happy. Now I'm just going to sit back and wait for the friends to roll in, right? ...Hello?
